From 3 p.m. onwards, the Family Space is bustling with activity. Most people are happy to see each other, some are even arguing about something. A few news items are quickly exchanged over snacks, and then the workshops begin.
In the workshops, children and teenagers write their own songs, compose the music, and record them in the recording studio. They can also create music videos if they wish. A wide variety of artists help them: singers, rappers, a slam poet, a video producer, sound engineers, and media educators.
During long and short breaks, the children who don't feel like participating in the workshop chat, play, and do crafts.
And yes, the cell phones are being collected or deliberately used as tools.
Teenagers work as a team. They shop, cook for the whole group, and tidy up at the end of the workshop. This way, they earn a reasonable amount of pocket money. The younger children help with cooking, setting the table, and clearing away, and the teenagers help the children in the workshops.
All too often, young people are already heavily in debt by the age of 25 because, for example, they did not know that they had to pay health insurance contributions or register their self-employment with the tax office.
To mitigate such risks, we also explore the business side of the music industry. Young people learn about various ways to earn money, from student jobs to starting their own business.
The parents, the majority of whom are single mothers, also learned in 3 workshops how they can best prepare their adolescents for the world of work.

Parents often observe that young people share, sing, and dance to discriminatory content. This also happens repeatedly during the workshop, for example, when favorite songs or TikTok idols are presented.
The team picks up on these moments and opens a space to discuss beauty ideals, role assignments, social norms, digital violence, algorithms and fake news.
The parents also meet to strengthen their media literacy and to develop options for dealing with situations of discrimination faced by their children.
