Kanga Motema
Digital voices against cultural violence
The Kanga Motema project has, over the course of a year and a half, created a courageous space for young people to confront the often invisible mechanisms of cultural violence.
What began in autumn 2024 with reflection sessions on discrimination in school and everyday life developed into a technologically demanding journey in which participants learned to tell their stories powerfully – without giving up their anonymity.
From reflection to creative production
In the first phase (end of 2024), the focus was on raising awareness. The young people analyzed instruments of power such as language, hate speech, and racism in the media. A key turning point was the realization by many participants that their identity needed protection online. From this concern about digital exposure, a creative strategy for 2025 emerged: the use of Avatars and virtual worlds.
Innovative approaches: Roblox, AI and storytelling
In 2025, the project shifted to the digital realm. The group used platforms like Roblox to explore complex topics such as transgenerational trauma, educational exclusion, and discrimination on the football field through safe role-playing games.
Methodology: Through the use of AI tools and comic software, „inner monologues“ were visualized and historical contexts such as colonialism were critically examined.
Strengthening: Excursions (including to Babelsberg Film Park and Magicum) provided a necessary balance and inspired the young people to create their own scenery and narratives.
The film will be released on our YouTube channel on March 21, 2026 at 2 PM, simultaneously with its cinema premiere.
The film
The interactive learning field
Furthermore, the project's sustainability was ensured through its digital implementation: A dedicated learning platform was created on the GNG Homeschool. This allows other young people to independently familiarize themselves with the project's content and become actively involved through interactive quiz modules and exciting challenges.
Empowerment and conclusion
The project concludes in March 2026 with a celebratory film screening. The results clearly show that the young people have not only gained media literacy but also the certainty that their messages must be heard. One participant summed it up perfectly: „"What we have to say is important – but we don't have to reveal our identity to do it."“
Kanga Motema has proven that linking political education and modern technology is an effective tool against exclusion.
